- Why is Mangahigh.com so effective? open
-
Mangahigh is proven to be effective for the following reasons:
-
Adaptivity:
Each game covers certain learning topics and is designed to dynamically adapt in difficulty to the ability of the student in order to aid the student to stay in their zone of proximal development i.e. "the level of difficulty that is neither too hard nor too easy, and is the level at which optimal learning takes place" (Renaissance Learning, 2007).
-
Automaticity:
"is the ability to do things without occupying the mind with the low level details required. It is usually the result of learning, repetition, and practice" (Wikipedia).
All Mangahigh games have a meta-objective that the players strive to achieve by repeating a simple step (game mechanic) over and over again. By overlaying the game mechanic with the core learning concept, we've invented the new and more efficient way of learning for the new generation.
-
Discipline and self-learning:
Games develop student’s ability and curiosity to observe, hypothesise, test, evaluate, conclude and refine ideas that are not always possible with traditional pedagogic teaching.
-
Application of theory:
The games provide powerful contexts that often bring out the 'real-world' application of the topic at hand, thereby increasing the student’s interest in the content and encouraging them to explore further.

Medals and Scores
expand- How do you pass a Prodigi® lesson? open
- You need to achieve a single score of 4,200 points or more to pass a Prodigi® lesson. This does not mean you have to get all the answers correct. But you need to demonstrate a secure understanding of questions at the HARD level.
- How are Prodigi® medals awarded? open
- You receive a Bronze medal for a score of 4,200 points or more, a Silver medal for a score of 9,000 points or more, and a Gold medal for a score of 14,000 points or more. A Gold medal is only possible if 10 extreme questions are answered correctly in a row.
- What does each Prodigi® medal indicate about the level of understanding? open
- A Bronze medal demonstrates that the lesson has been understood. A Silver medal demonstrates a deep understanding of the lesson. A Gold medal demonstrates an exceptional understanding of the lesson.
- What does the "average Prodigi® score" for a lesson indicate? open
- This gives a weighted average of the last 3 scores for a particular lesson. If you have only played 2 games then the average score is the sum of 30% of the first game score and 70% of the second game score. If you have played 3 games then the average score is the sum of 20%, 30% and 50% of the last 3 game scores. This provides a measure for performance for up to 30 questions, but also means that low scores will not affect your long term average if you improve.
- How are Game medals awarded? open
- Bronze game medals are earned by completing specific maths achievements in the games. 5 Bronze medals lead to an award of a Silver medal, and 5 Silver medals lead to an award of a Gold medal.
- What do the Achievements on the home page represent? open
- A list of all the medals from both Prodigi® lessons and game achievements.
- What does the "Prodigi® Score" represent on the homepage? open
- This is the sum of all the average scores for all the Prodigi® lessons you have ever played. This is a measure of both your most recent performances in Prodigi® lessons and the amount of activity you have engaged in.
